Just a quick update post on where I am on 'The General' after 2 weeks of 'here and there' stitching

A Challenge, and a new blogger (kind of)

I wanted to tell you a story about a friend of mine, Nat. She is the one who first showed me the link to Heaven and Earth Designs and changed my stitching life for ever and for the better :) Now while I have been collecting charts now (19 and counting lol) she actually has only ever been able to get the freebies. But stitch she does, all gunghoe on 1 project and then when I ask how its going she says 'Oh started a new 1' lol. Now I know we all do this. I myself have a few sitting in a drawer waiting to be finished. But it was such 1 day that  she didnt know what to work on. So I snuck over to the HAED website and RAKed her a chart. A crazy idea? Maybe but I had a plan, which I unveiled to her this morning when she received the chart :) My Challenge to her is if she starts and finishes that chart and also finishes off a small stitch I know is almost done I will buy her (on a sale) the next in the series.

This is the chart I RAKed her:

and her dream is to finish the series. So I said 'Keep me posted on updates, and I will cheer you on' Now if you also would like to cheer her on in her quest for a finish, here is her blog link just for the challenge, http://natshaedproject-sapphire.blogspot.com.au/ where she introduces you to the challenge as well.

Happy Stitching and I will be back on Tuesday with updates of my own :)

Weekly Update

This weeks stitching included, introducing Comfy Cozy into the rotation, leaving her looking a little wider:-

and my little kitchen project with all the shelves done now, just a few more things before its finished

Now its time to head back to 'The General' for his 10 hours :)

The General

Ok, so I've decided to try a 10 hour rotation like others do and see if it works for me. And maybe a few WIPs that haven't seen the light of day might get some TLC again. (Or then again it could be a lot more starts :P). No, really I've found a few WIPs that I really want to work on between my HAEDs.

So my first 10 hours, which took just over a week to complete, was on The General, to get him properly started. And this is what he looks like now

It kind of pulled at my heartstrings to move on to Comfy Cozy but I know she really needs some work done as well since I lost my stitchy bug on her a few months ago. For some reason I just didn't feel like finishing the first page so now I'm starting the second page anyway :)

Happy Stitching :)

Got a minute?

Or 2 for me to borrow to catch up on my posting and reading of posts? lol.

Any down time I have grabbed have been spent stitching and they've been few and far between so Ive been a bad blogger :( But baby girl is growing quickly and that is not to be missed right now :)

So what have I been up to? Well starting 'The General'

which I am loving, but after a while I started to long for a finish, as Ive only had 1 this year between working on HAEDs and not stitching much at all. So Ive started 'The Real Kitchen' by www.cross-stitchers-club.com   to hopefully finish quickly.

After that 'Comfy Cozy' is screaming at me to finish the first page as its so close but also in the next month, stitching will take a back seat as I try my hand at sewing some dresses for my little girls. I dont know how I'll go or if I'll succeed by I'll give it a go lol. I have bought some patterns, I just need to get some material and all other bits and bobs :P

Oh and just before I go, I knew my dear hubby (as much as I love him) wasn't planning to buy me anything for my birthday (yesterday 21st :) so I took matters into my own hands

heehee.
And also on HAED Appreciation Week, I did my bit with -

I hope you all have had more time than me to stitch and enjoy as the weather warms up here and we head into the last months of the year (noooooo :P )

Happy Stitching :)

2 months!!

Ooops! I promise Im still here, life has just been incredibly hectic. First with school holidays and trying to finish page 1 of Comfy Cozy which isnt quite done.
Also inviting our 4th little bundle into the family on the 6th of August (making our family complete with Girl, Boy, Girl, Girl) was a big joy and has meant many visitors and helpers.

This is the latest picture I have of Comfy Cozy although I think Ive done a bit on it since this was taken.

Just before I went into hospital, I received the threads and fabric to start a new HAED, 'The General' by Bob Byerly. I just put the first stitches into it this morning to get me started into stitching again.

The General

So I see a lot of stitching fun ahead of me (if I can find a spare 5 minutes in the day :P ). I hope you have all been well and got plenty of restful stitching done while Ive been away :)

Happy Stitching for the rest of the month! (Where has this year gone?)

Update Time!

For lack of a decent title lol.

But yes it is that time again. I stitched away on Comfy Cozy for about a week and then spent a week on a card which unfortunatly I cant show just yet until it is sent and received. But here is my pic of Comfy Cozy....

Yes, Ive reached the bottom corner of the page! And now Ive set myself a crazy challenge. Over the next 2 weeks while Dear Daugher (5) will be on school holidays and I might not be as exhausted as I get from 2 school runs a day, Id like to finish this page and start the next. But as I also have to do my preperation for the next arrival while I have the time, I'll have to see how I go :D

Happy Stitching :)

Sterotyping Stitchers-Blog Hop #4

Ok, Im not usually one to voice an opinion, Im usually the quiet one at the back of the room, listening and taking everything in. But when I read about stitchingthenightaway 's Blog Hop I thought it was something that I could weigh in on.

The question  asked was..
Do you experience this same assumption from society in general that just because you’re being crafty you’re also driven by some unseen force to be in constant 1950s housewife mode? and then…. Who actually does the cooking and the cleaning in the household? I’d also really like to hear some words from the men in the crowd who stitch on this topic. What sort of societal reactions do you get and what ridiculously wrong assumptions do people make towards you when they see you working on needlework?

My Answer is this:

My dear step mum bought me the joy of stitching when she joined the family when I was 7. I cant remember when i started, but I remember her happily stitching in her afternoon break. The housework, well it was just always done and I still dont know how she manages it all as she married into a family of 4 kids (Im the oldest) and she was only 27, and yet it all come so natural to her even after having 3 babies of her own.Although even now my father and brother accuse her of doing nothing and just like my Dear Husband, you dont dare let them see you with a cup of tea in hand or they think thats all youve done all day. Stitching for me early on was a stress releif after school or on weekends as I didn't go out and party or 'normal' teenager stuff.

These days, stitching is still my stress releiver. With 3 kids under 5, the house is never perfect, but what is done is done all by me. My husband leaves for work before sunup and gets home after the kids bedtime. He does mow the lawn (but that doesnt include picking up kids toys ect off the lawn beforehand, that is my job). My inlaws give off a vibe that if youre not in the workforce, youre lazy and thoughtless and as they live in the same town it can get draining. And they definatly look down at me for stitching when the house isnt sparkling 24/7 since I am home all the time.

So i think why people assume that we are the 1950s housewife is that they would assume that we only stitch after absolutly everything is done in the house. And to that I say 'piffle!' lol. Who wants to scrub windows everyday? As long as the dishes are done, everyones wearing something clean and the floor can be walked on and swept, and beds are tidy, mum can take a minute to herself, there are too many WIPs not too lol! As I told my Dear Husband the other day, I cant remember the last time I actually sat down to drink a cup of tea or coffee, I usually have a few mouthfulls and then find it a few hours later stone cold so i must be doing something right :P

So leave the duster in its holder, set the dryer instead of going out to the line and sit a little while!

Happy Stitching :D

Update

Well my plan was to leave the update for 2 weeks so that I could see plenty of change. Trouble is 2 weeks from my last stitchy update was last Friday. What happened?.. I hear you ask. Well I arrived home that afternoon with full intentions to jump on and write a blog entry when everything ground to a hault. I walked into the spare room/computer room to see these guys.....

being born under my computer chair of all places! So no stitching and no update since then as even though Mumma cat does all the kitten care I've been on guard duty making sure they dont get literally 'smothered' with love from my 3 darling children.

But here we go as I keep 1 eye on the screen and 1 eye on Darling Daughter (2 yrs old)

Progress on Comfy Cozy...

and Celtic Spring...
Ok Id better go now and let Mumma Cat and babies get  a little rest away from my crazy bunch.

Happy Stitching :)

New Stash?

If magazines are classed as part of ones stash then look what came home with me from the newsagents :D

Now I havent bought xstitch magazines since 2007 believe it or not and the current prices fell heavy on the poor old wallet so I think I'll be looking at secondhand stores and the library instead if im ever looking for more (loving my HAEDs too much to need too many lol) There are a few patterns in there that  I like so its not too bad.

Happy Stitching in the new week :D

Progress and a Poll

Well its 1 week later and Im still stitching away on Comfy Cozy. Last night after my longest stitching break for a long time (surprisingly almost on 4 hours!) this is where its up to for this weeks progress pic.

Hopefully soon I will get to the half a page done mark :P

On the right hand side of my page Ive started a poll just for fun, to see how often you all like seeing progress pictures on these larger WIPs, such as HAED.

And thats all from me this week. A slow stitching week as life has been a little hectic (A family of 5 and no fridge or freezer for 3 days) but we're back on track now.

Happy Stitching in this wonderful new month!

HAED Progress...Finally!

Well since I can finally take some pics I thought I would show you the (small) progress on my HAED. This is how it looked back in December when I started...

and this is what it looks like now after just over a weeks or so work put into it ....

there are some dark reds in the black that arent showing too well.
Oh and I should add that this is what I was busy stitching away on over IHSW.

Hopefully it will grow with more speed now that I have my stitchy bug back :)

Happy Stitching!

Guess What......

My very darling husband bought me us a new camera today!! So from tomorrow it will be business as usual on the blog front. I just have to figure out how to use it first :)

Ive been very busy stitching for.....

And after everyone else is in bed tonight I'll continue.

Happy Stitching!

Monday 16 April 2012

Im Back!!!

Wow! 4 months sure have flown! Christmas and Easter both out of the way. My dearest darling oldest daughter started her school journey with Prep at the start of the year :)

Im so sorry Ive been gone for so long. I havent even been around to look at any ones blog :( Theres kind of 2 reasons for this. Number 1 being that my camera died on the first day of school back in January. Rats! And also Ive only just picked up the needle in the last couple of weeks, after a long crafty drought since I last talked to you all back in December. Some ladies get turned off foods by morning sickness, for me it was my stitching. Yes! Thats right! Bundle of joy no.4 will be joining us very early on in August all being well and is making itself known by some very enthusiastic kicks now, being 23 weeks along :)

So my stitchy bug is back and although my posts may be a little slower and not quite as pretty until I convince Hubby that we need a new camera before bub arrives, Im still here and can't wait to catch up with you all again.

Happy Stitching!
